FCBOE Board Meeting- November
The Fulton County Board of Education held their monthly board meeting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2021.
The FCS Board of Education begins with the Pledge of Allegiance and approves the agenda for tonight’s meeting.
Dr. Looney begins student recognition; Chief Academic Officer Cliff Jones recognizes a student athlete from Westlake High School.
The board hears public comments, though there are none.
The board members highlight positives in their community. District 5 Board Member Linda McCain highlights that the Fulton County School Police at the three John Creek high schools have customized their police cars with the emblems/logos of the high school they serve at. There was a celebration for Johns Creek mayor Mike Bodker and his years of service. A 6th grader at River Trail Middle School was recognized for his winning essay for the Johns Creek exceptional city competition.
Chief Communications Officer Brian Noyes presents the monthly FCS’s sesquicentennial video. This month’s being about extracurriculars and athletics.
Noyes now presents the legislative priorities. The legislative priorities pass unanimously.
Board President and District 7 Board Member Julia Bernath presents the approval of Board Member District Maps for submission to the Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office. The motion passes unanimously.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney highlights accomplishments within the district. He mentions his visit with Student Leadership Johns Creek as successful and productive.
Chief Talent Officer Ron Wade presents the Fulton County School Epidemiology Report. All cases in Fulton County Schools are trending down. On Nov. 17, the county distributed 5,000 COVID testing kits. Wade reminds families to be safe during the holidays. Dr Looney stressed the importance of reporting COVID symptoms to the district portal and not attending school if sick.
Montreal Bell gives the FCS bridge update.
District 4 Board Member Franchesca Warren raises a question about mobile learning. Bell responded by explaining it is a program to bring learning to students.
District 1 Board Member Katha Stuart highlights the power of the students, parents, teachers, and county employees for their work with extending learning.
District 3 Board Member Gail Dean asks about the website. Bell reveals that the website will be shared next month.
The board motions for the executive items to be approved. All executive items are approved unanimously.
Marvin Dereef, the Chief Financial Officer presents the banking resolutions, though there are none.
Dereef then presents the employee travel report for November. The motion carried unanimously.
