FCBOE Board Meeting - November

The Fulton County Board of Education met for their monthly board meeting on Nov. 16 2023.

• District 5 Board Member Kristen McCabe and District 7 Board Member Michelle Morancie joined online.

• Brian Noyes recognizes Elizabeth Eppes for receiving the 2024 Georgia Art Educator of the Year Award.

• Noyes recognizes Marvin Dereef Jr. for receiving the 2023 International Eagle Award.

• District 5 Board Member Kristen McCabe congratulates the Taylor Road Middle School Cross Country teams for finishing 3rd (girl’s team) and 4th (boys team) places.

• McCabe congratulates river trail student Nishka Changi?? for being selected to be featured on the Fulton County Water Art Calendar for her commitment to water conservation.

• McCabe also congratulates William Edgar for becoming a REACH scholar. He will be awarded $10000 when he graduates.

• Finally, McCabe thanks everyone who attended the community reach meeting, where they covered a presentation on AI in school and feedback on the draft calendar for the next school year. The next meeting will be on Dec. 13, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.

• Mike Looney expressed his gratitude to everyone for their support and presence in the community. He also reminds everyone to be safe and attentive while cooking this Thanksgiving due to the increased incidence of house fires and expresses that families without food can find food in locations such as the Salvation Army.

• Montreal Bell covers the ESSER III-ARP compliance updates. She also mentions that Fulton County has passed the 20% learning loss requirements, where Fulton County has spent at least 23% of its budget to recover student learning loss. Bell covers the fiscal year 2025 ARP transition plan and the draft transition plan for ESSER for fiscal year 2024.

• The Fulton County Board of Education approves all land, legal, student and personnel matters as discussed in Executive Session on Nov. 16, 2023.

• The Fulton County Board of Education approves all matters for consent.
