FCBOE Board Meeting - March
The Fulton County Board of Education held for their monthly board meeting at 6 p.m. on March 18, 2021.
Meeting is called to order.
Chief Talent Officer Ron Wade leads the board members through the Pledge of Allegiance.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney starts his recognitions highlighting School Board Recognition Week and the work the board members have done during the pandemic in terms of becoming debt-free and allowing all students to receive a safe and quality education during this time.
Looney also reports of Chief Operations Officer Patrick Burke’s tenured resignation after more than 20 years of service.
The board members honor Burke with their own comments of gratitude and appreciation about his services to the county.
Burke thanks the board for their work and support through his career as Chief Operations Officer.
Looney continues his recognitions, he calls up Chief Academic Officer Cliff Jones to recognize students.
The Board welcomes public comments, which are not aired publicly.
Mayor Bill Edwards gives his thanks to Burke and reads his proclamation on the work of South Fulton schools and teachers during the pandemic. He says April 13th, 2021 will be dedicated to South Fulton Educators in the city of South Fulton.
Board members recognize the accomplishments of schools in their districts. District 5 Board Member Linda McCain recognizes students of Student Leadership Johns Creek including Northview students who hosted a fundraiser for restoration of tombstones in Macedonia Cemetery, a historical cemetery for slaves and first generations of freedmen in the area. McCain also highlights another group of Northview Students wrote a book on the history of Johns Creek for elementary students to learn about the area they live in.
Looney calls on Chief Communications Officer Brian Noyes to talk about the 150th year anniversary of Fulton County Schools. Janice Nam, a Northview senior is featured in a celebratory video on students in the county and the history of life of students in Fulton.
Looney calls on Chief Talent Officer Ron Wade to give his COVID-19 update. Wade presents the numbers that are currently on decline, as shown below.

Wade also thanks Burke for his service and friendship through their careers.
Wade also mentions that staff members who got vaccines outside of Fulton County vaccination drives will be able to report that and those staff members will go towards the numbers of all vaccinated staff in Fulton county schools under Project Vaccine.
Looney calls on Principal Jason Stamper to go over the School Improvement Grant at his school, Banneker High School. The SIG presentation is shown below.

Looney calls on Chief Financial Officer Marvin Dereef to discuss board items 6.01 Banking Resolutions and 6.02 City of College Park Tax Allocation #1. The motion on item 6.02 moves unanimously.
Dereef continues with discussion on item 6.03 Employee Travel Report for March 2021. The motion on item 6.03 moves unanimously.
The next board meeting date is set for April 15, 2021. As there are no further points of motion the board meeting is adjourned.
