On Sept. 21, Northview’s marching band performed at Cambridge High School for the Marching Band Exhibition. 15 Fulton County bands participated by showing off their shows and talents, all of which were scored by judges.

The theme of Northview’s band performance this year was classical music, differing greatly from previous years

“Our theme this year is classical music as opposed to funk from las year. So this year we’re performing Hall of the Mountain King, Carmen, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Ode to Joy,” Aaron Wei, junior and drum major, said.

The performance was also a way for the band to work together and to gain experience. The main focus was for the less experienced players to have more practice in marching alongside their fellow players. Students go through a lot of training to perfect their work. Other than exhibitions, most competitive bands participate in competitions after football season. However, Northview is not a competitive band, so it concludes with football.

Marching band is also helping other students become more extroverted and sociable. Along with this, it builds friendships and mentorships between upperclassmen and underclassmen.

“Band is not just a self thing that you learn and just do by yourself,” Andy Yoo, a freshman, said.

As a freshman, Rachel is looking forward to experiencing the different aspects of journalism. She's excited to let Northview students know about the hidden side of the school.
