Talented, outgoing, confident, and intuitive are only a few of the words one may use to describe Sir Price II. Although Price is only a senior in high school, he has paved his way towards success through pursuing his passions in life and overcoming the adversity, prejudice, and stereotypes that oppose him.

As President of the Black History Club (BHC), Price aims to create an inclusive community at Northview that is welcoming towards all races. This year, he plans on leading the club in an innovative fashion and to spearhead BHC initiatives for social justice awareness. Moreover, Price was also able to incorporate his passion for songwriting and music with his position in the BHC and performs in their shows.

“For the 2019 show, I performed with three fellow peers as the R&B group, New Edition. In fact, that had been a long time dream of mine, and I felt so elated to have accomplished that goal,” Price said. “For the 2020 BHC show, I hosted as well as performed my own original song, which I wrote, recorded, and performed all around Atlanta. The name of that song is “Represent Black History.”

As an aspiring musician, Price aims to express his creative side towards the public and the Northview community by performing in front of them for BHC shows and International Night. He releases music under his artist name, “Kyng Kobra”, which he streams on all platforms. He also writes songs about social injustices and utilizes his voice and platform to promote reform.

“Due to the social unrest that sparked over the summer, I was inspired to write another song regarding social injustice, that’s titled, “Say Their Names”, which will be released in just a few days,” Price said.

Songwriting and activism are not the only passions Price has, however. He is also extremely involved in Northview’s theatre department where he was inducted into Thespian Troupe 6577 and performed in productions such as Puffs and Dessert Theatre. Price recalls performing in these productions as being one of his most memorable experiences at Northview; the only experience it compared to was his hosting of International Night.

In order to accomplish his goals, Price thinks he must persevere through hardships that require immense strength of the mind. One source of Price’s mental strength is his experience playing basketball and his AAU coaches.

“The best AAU coaches I’ve had, have taught me to play every moment in life like it’s the 4th quarter of a game. Those great coaches taught me to always believe that, similar to life, basketball is a “mental” game, not a “physical” game like most people would think,” Price said. “Mental endurance will always take you further than your physical ability.”

Another factor that strengthened Price’s ability to persevere is the constant support he receives from his mother. Price’s mother is the source of his confidence and constantly encourages him to pursue his dreams. He describes her as someone who built his confidence so high to the point where nothing in life can daunt him.

“My mom is my “ride or die”, and as long as I know she’s in my corner, cheering me on, I can and will persevere through anything,” Price said.

The motivation behind Price’s pursuance of his dreams lies within himself: he is his biggest motivator. His goals, beliefs, ideals, and aspirations in life are what inspire him to make change.

“If you don’t first believe in yourself, then who else will? Short of that, I feel that your ‘passions’ in life should motivate you,” Price said.

When Price graduates from Northview, he wishes for his legacy to be that of an epic coming of age story that showcases his perseverance in the face of adversity, prejudice, and preconceived notions. He desires for others to know that he overcame these challenges and barriers and was able to find his niches in the theatre department, BHC, and mock trial. Moreover, he wishes to be known as someone who is well respected as a student, athlete, actor, and activist and opened the BHC to all races so that the future generations could come together and reimagine a future without prejudice.

“Our generation needs to begin to feel comfortable talking about race relations. We need to learn to accept our differences and embrace and love one another. As the late great John Lewis said, ‘If not us, then who? If not now, then when?’”
