FCBOE Work Session - October

The Fulton County Board of Education met for their monthly work session at 2 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2023.

  • Chief Communications Officer Brian Noyes presents the improvements in communication in district messaging. He highlights the broadcast divisions’s work in Let’s Talk Schools and Senior Spotlights. He also talks about Fulton County Schools’ close relation with the media. Noyes also talks about updating the board meeting interface.

  • Board Vice President and District 1 Board Member Katha Stuart asks about the extent of story telling programs. Noyes says that the county needs to build the program. Stuart commend Noyes on bring Lets Talk Schools live.

  • The board approves the agenda for the October work session.

  • Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney thanks the custodians for their work.

  • Chief Academic Officer Brannon Gaskins announces a district-wide graduation rate of 90.3%, the highest rate ever. Looney emphasizes the size of this achievement. The board has authorized a $90.30 payment to every Fulton County Schools employee.

  • The board approves all items in the executive session.

  • The board consents Item 6.02, displaying new world language textbooks for public review.

  • Executive Director of Strategy Dr. Ryan Moore explains item 7.02, giving the county more leeway when considering fall and winter breaks. The board consents to the item.

  • The board accepts item 7.03.

  • The board consents item 7.04 and item 7.05, which reorganizes the FCS redistricting process.

  • Chief Operations Officer Noel Maloof presents items 7.06, to install speed detection cameras in school zones. Board Vice President and District 1 Board Member Katha Stuart asks about the relations with the municipalities. FCS will not be listed on the ticket and will not receive proceeds from tickets.

  • The board consents item 7.07. This item approves new turf installations. Northview High School will not receive these installation until phase 2 of the project.

  • The board consents item 7.08 which approves various contracting agreements.

  • The board consents item 7.09, which purchase 49 propane-powered, air-conditioned buses.

  • The board consents item 7.10, which adds new data cables in schools.

  • The board consents item 7.11.

  • The board consents item 7.12, moving non-Truist bank accounts to Truist Bank. PTOs and such organizations are not required to move their accounts to Truist Bank.

  • The board consents item 7.13.

  • The board consents item 7.14.

  • The board consents item 7.15.

  • The board consents item 7.16.

  • The board approves item 8.01, for field trips.
