Central City Tavern, newly located in the center of downtown Alpharetta, provides a casual option for drinks or lunch, but also one for a classy, date night dinner. The square where it is located, known for hosting social events such as festivals and gatherings, is filled with quaint little restaurants and shops. Directly in front of the restaurant is a grassy area where kids can play corn hole. Outside, music plays in the background and string lights hang above, giving off a welcoming and playful ambiance. Even furry friends are welcome. Upon entering the dimly lit restaurant, there are small lights that brighten up each table, along with flat-screen TVs broadcasting live sporting events without being too noisy. Although the restaurant is very family-friendly, it is located underneath a brewery and does not offer a kids menu.

This tavern features the best of upscale and traditional American styled foods served in a sports bar type atmosphere. It is well known for its amazing appetizers, especially the “jumbo Bavarian pretzel” served with beer cheese. The waiter served it to us on a metal mount because of how large it was. We also enjoyed the chili cheese nachos, which consisted of chili, cheddar jack cheese, tater tots, and jalapenos. Called “shareables,” these are definitely true to their name.

Aside from their popular appetizers, the menu contains a variety of dishes including wings, burgers, skillets, tacos, salads, etc. With many vegan and gluten-free options, Central City Tavern offers something for everybody to enjoy. At the end of your meal, you can indulge in some delectable desserts that the restaurant offers, including blueberry guava cheesecake and fried Oreos.

The waiters were very helpful and attentive, checking on us often to see if we needed anything. Our food was served quickly and in an appealing manner. Waiters are receptive to requests for specific changes to the meal of your choice, as they are very accommodating when it comes to allergies and dietary restrictions.

Central City Tavern’s options were reasonably priced for the generous portion sizes, meaning you are definitely getting what you pay for. The restaurant is a great addition to downtown Alpharetta and if you find yourself in the area looking for a good mix of casual and upscale dining, this should be a top choice.
