The Fulton County Board of Education met for their monthly board meeting on Dec. 14, 2023.
District 2 Board Member Lillie Pozatek highlights Milton High School for winning the State Football Championship and Creekside High School’s commitment.
District 3 Board Member Katie Gregory recognizes Riverwood High School’s Governor Honor Program nominees.
Board Vice President and District 1 Board Member Katha Stuart recognizes the Huskies Helping Huskies non profit at Crabapple Middle School and Vickery Elementary School. Stuart highlights Independence High School’s Graduation with 10 students graduating early.
District 4 Board Member Franchesca Warren gives shoutout to the football game. Warren mentions Cliftondale awards at the Elementary State Beta Convention. Warren highlights West Lake High School.
District 5 Board Member Kristin McCabe gives shoutout to a student from State Bridge Crossing Elementary who was spotlighted in Sport Illustrated Kids for his artwork. McCabe announces that Chattahoochee High school attended the State Beta Convention and won several awards. She recognizes the Strategy and Governance Council and Johns Creek Highschool’s Holiday Band Concert.
District 7 Board Member Dr. Michelle Morancie recognizes Holcomb Bridge Middle School’s chorus and Sandy Springs Middle School’s band, orchestra, and chorus.
Board President and District 6 Board Member Kimberly Dove highlights Bethune Elementary and C. Warren Lee Elementary. Warren recognizes the band performances, cheerleaders, and color guard at the State Championship game.
Superintendent Mike Looney expresses his gratitude to everyone for their support during the first semester.
Dr. Gasket reviews the improvements that Fulton County Schools have made in multiple areas and the fact that students’ mastery continue to be above average in the state in classes such as American Literature, Social Studies, and Math. Multiple board members give kudos regarding these improvements.
Highlights the support systems set up at College Park Elementary to aid students who are experiencing difficulties at home or need financial assistance regarding school expenditures as well as their future plans to improve the support system.
Dr. Looney reads the motion statement of legislative priorities to be moved. Board moves to executive section items.
Dr. Looney and Katha Stuart discuss the new school calendar and the proposed changes to it such as teacher work days and breaks. The board took the calendar from 180 days to 177 instructional days.
