While it may be cliché, 2024 is the year for new beginnings. Recently, I have been very intrigued by the upcoming fashion trends for 2024, from aviator sunglasses in the 2000s to bows all around in 2023. As social media grows and technology advances, I believe many people will have to adjust to new lifestyles. Here is what I expect to see in the upcoming months after looking into what celebrities have been wearing lately and considering some of my own predictions based on current events.

The ribbon shelves are empty. Velvet, lace, glitter, satin, tulle, and burlap are all gone. As we enter 2024, one style that appears to be resurging is the revival of embellishments reminiscent of the coquette look. The coquette trend not only took social media by storm, but the world. I have yet to see the coquette aesthetic fade out, but I have seen an increase in other embellishments, such as roses and gems. This forthcoming trend is a blend of romance, elegance, and self-expression that is likely to revolutionize style this year. Alessandra Ambrosio is just one of the models who has been seen taking part in this trend off the runway. This trend allows people to express their personality through clothing, making a bold statement without saying a word.

Don't worry, I can't afford anything Alessandra Ambrosio wears either. Despite the fact that she graced the runways with the newest accessories, 2024 will be the year when DIYs (do-it-yourselfs) become popular again and everyone becomes a designer. With the resurgence of thrifting and the successive keyword sustainability, do-it-yourself projects provide not only a creative outlet but also an opportunity to recycle, repurpose, and reinvent one's personal aesthetic. I consider the craft of do-it-yourself projects to be highly environmentally conscious and sustainable. With a glue gun in one hand and a dash of innovation in the other, 2024 better be ready to release its inner stylist.

From the influx of Generation Alpha "Sephora kids" on TikTok to the bashing of "boomers," it's evident that your generation is supposed to define who you are. While assumptions are rarely inaccurate, Generation Z has always remained on top throughout it all. Gen Z has developed a superior viewpoint as they sit between the "sticky iPad kids" and the "snowflakes.” However, dear Gen Z, get prepared for an important turning point in 2024 as Generation Alpha confidently steps into the spotlight, equipped with their parent's money in one pocket and an astounding amount of attitude in the other. As a fellow member of Gen Z, I genuinely hope this is not the case, but this year has gotten off to a rocky start as some Gen Zers have been discussing their encounters on social media with Gen Alpha. I have also had an encounter with one of these fascinating children. During a recent parade, I caught myself eavesdropping on a group of Gen Alpha prodigies - two boys and a girl, all around the age of five or six. Their discussion, a symphony of innocence and audacity, caught me slightly off guard. One accused the other of looking like Donald Trump, while the other counterattacked through comparing their face to "Sleepy Joe." As a child, political commentary was hardly the first thing on my kindergarten agenda. I never imagined a world in which kindergarten contentions were comparable to political talk shows. The infamous Sephora kids are a prime example of this; ranging in age from seven to 14, these kids have turned beauty sections into battlegrounds. Sephora has even gone so far as to place glass in front of all of its products to avoid conflicts with these children. Gen Z, we best watch out, considering we have no idea what Gen Alpha has in store for us.

Nonetheless, one thing is clear as we dive headfirst into 2024, navigating the obstacles of shifting generational dynamics and fashion trends: change is not inevitable but fashionable. Whether you're dressing to impress with rosette flair, expressing your inner fashionista through DIY projects, or preparing yourself for the establishment of Generation Alpha, this year will be unpredictable and innovative.
