The Northview Varsity Girls' Soccer team participated in the Daffodil Project: a worldwide living Holocaust memorial. People across the nation have planted 1.5 million daffodils to symbolize the yellow stars Jewish people were forced to wear and honor the children who perished during the Holocaust.

Girls’ Varsity Soccer coach Sonia Field was running on the Johns Creek campus when she stumbled upon a garden with daffodils and the plaque installed.

“I looked into it and then realized that there were a lot of schools around here that were involved,” Field said.

After researching, Field decided to officially partner with the Daffodil Project. In September of 2023, the Daffodil Project sent her 500 bulbs, and the team planted them.

“I think the reason that we did it with our soccer team is that they could have a lasting impact on the Northview community," Field said. "There was a small group of players that came out to plant, and they've been super excited about the project."

Girls on the soccer team decided to participate when Field proposed the idea.

“I thought it would be a fun team bonding exercise before the season started,” Katie Bernard, team captain said.

Other girls on the team, such as sophomore Olivia Bates, also participated in this journey of awareness.

“It symbolizes so much, and all the daffodils which grow twice every year can represent the lives of all those who were lost,” Bates said.

After a long process of planting and waiting, the daffodils officially bloomed under the flagpole in front of the school showing the support Northview has for this cause.
